The name of this instrument reffers to El Cantón de Mohosa, a bolivian locality. The mohoseño is a bass flute, which has a secondary pipe working as an aeroduct. This aeroduct brings the mouthpiece nearer to the fingerholes, as otherwise the big size of the instrument would make it unplayable.
With our mohoseños, you will be able to play two complete octaves and a Major 3rd, chromatic alterations being possible. The required technique employs three fingers of each hand and involves both thumbs.
The most common mohoseño is tuned one octave lower than standard quena, and it has a 35.4-inch approximate length. Mohoseños, however, can also be made in other keys.
(also mohoseño, moxeño, moceño, aykory)
